Who Am I?

Overview

Research interests

Dr. Sanganyado’s expertise is in the area of fate and transport of organic pollutants in the environment. In particular, he specializes in the development of sampling techniques and chromatographic methods employed in environmental monitoring and characterization of pollutants.

Current interest on the impact of emerging contaminants on aquatic organisms is high. The widespread detection of emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products, novel flame retardants and microplastics, has raised questions on their potential adverse effects on the environment. To understand the impact of such compounds, it is important to understand their exposure pathways, environmental fate and transport behaviors and toxicity. My research focuses on developing sampling, sample preparation, separation and detection methods for emerging contaminants in different environmental compartments.

Below are some examples of my past and current projects.

Current

  • Impact of African traditional worldviews on climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Impact of organic pollutants on endangered marine mammals in South Asia
  • Application of sediment core sampling techniques in establishing the health of estuary ecosystems

Previous

  • Understanding chiral separation mechanisms in liquid chromatography
  • Fate and toxicity of chiral pharmaceuticals in the environment
  • Occurrence of carcinogenic contaminants in traditional foods consumed in Zimbabwe
